This version of the German Grand Prix, once again held on the fearsome Nürburgring, already looked delicious, with works entries from Alfa Romeo, Bugatti, Maserati and Mercedes-Benz, as well as some noteworthy privateers – and then the heavens opened.

“The Mercedes, just about twice the body weight of the Bugatti and Maserati, had outstanding roadholding. Had the weather been dry, the success would without doubt have been distinct.”
Even now, it confirmed the German’s skill that two Bugattis and an Alfa, not his colleagues, were being his chasers.
Activity on Skegness sand
Motocross is a popular spectacle on Skegness beach front. Back again in 1931, you could have viewed athletics vehicles racing instead. Alvis, Bentley, Bugatti, Invicta and Mercedes cars doing up to 90mph on moist sand must have been awesome to behold. And the handicapping was calculated to perfection to generate near-fought, scintillating racing in each individual warmth.
