Hyundai sales are up 10.8% in a market down -12.4% in February. Picture motortrend.com
The Canadian new light vehicle market falls -12.4% year-on-year in February to 98,722 units and down a round -20% on pre-pandemic February 2020, according to estimates by DesRosiers Automotive Consultants. The year-to-date volume stands at 190,133 sales, down -6.6% on the same period a year ago. The Seasonally Adjusted Annualised Rate of sales (SAAR) stands at 1.62 million units, a 12% drop on the 1.84 million units of February 2021.
Looking at groups who still report sales monthly, Hyundai-Kia (+9.3%) takes the lead off Toyota Motor (-15.8%) while Honda Canada (-21.4%) suffers the largest drop. Brand-wise, Toyota (-17.5%) takes a hard hit, whereas Hyundai (+10.8%) is in great shape and defies the market slump, a does sister brand Kia (+6.3%) below Honda (-23.4%). Mazda (-12.1%) matches the market whereas Subaru (+3.8%), Volvo (+2%) and Genesis (+23%) all register year-on-year lifts. Lexus (-1%) and Acura (-5.2%) edge down.
